Simple Fodder System

A fodder system converts  grain and seeds into high quality fodder for livestock.  The most popular fodder is barley because it is cheap and grows fast, but you can make fodder from almost any seed that your animals would want to eat.

Here is the fodder system we use.  It is very easy and the chickens and geese love it!

Raising Chickens

chickFloppy’s (Daniel) blog is Delete the Nuts

Daniel has written a series of blog posts about keeping broiler chickens in his back yard.  He has had chickens for the past year and started in May with broilers.

Daniel’s blog on his chickens starts with the arrival of the ” box of cuteness” and follows them up to about six weeks now.

Our experience has been pretty much like Daniels.  I agree they are a lot less work once they are able to be outside.

We also had the scary experience of getting the foot stuck under the tractor when moving.

Thanks Floppy (Daniel)

Vermicomposting

indexHeliotropicmoth (Patrick) has given us a great blog on how to start vermicomposting.

Vermicomposting is the practice of using worms to turn your organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer.

If you have no idea what you need to have and how to start he has got it covered.  Patrick has given us a  list of what you need and steps to get you going.

Thanks Heliotropicmoth
